British scientists have found that English Bulldogs are characterised by particularly poor health. To ensure their future well-being, it is necessary to change the way they are bred.
Specialists compared the medical records of 2.6 thousand bulldogs with 22 thousand other breeds. As it turned out, the former have twice the risk of getting one or another disease during the year.
The most common diseases they face are: dermatitis of skin folds, “cherry eye” syndrome, protrusion of the lower jaw, brachycephalic syndrome of obstructive airway disease, etc.
These ailments not only make the animals suffer, but also shorten their life expectancy. According to researchers, only a few bulldogs live up to 8 years.
